Podcast Equipment For Interviews

Every podcaster has a different method to recording an interview. Some podcasters like to record in person, while some like to record over the phone or Skype. Depending on how you plan on interview your guest, will depict the equipment you need.

If you plan on recording the interview in person, you will need, two microphones, an audio interface or mixer, and a recording software. If you plan on producing a video podcast, you are going to want to purchase a camera.

If you’re recording a podcast over Skype or on the phone, there are multiple ways to do this. You are going to have your microphone, an audio interface or mixer that will connect to your phone. Make sure your recording software is picking up both your microphone and your guest. Depending on the recording software, you might have to make changes in the settings. The same goes for when recording an interview through Skype. There are 100’s of videos on YouTube that will direct and guide you through the process of recording a podcast through Skype.

How Much Does Podcast Equipment Cost?

The cost of podcasting is affordable and almost anybody can do it! On the other hand, the cost of podcasting equipment varies! It all depends on how you plan on recording your show and the size of it.

The more people you plan on including in your podcast, the more money it will cost. It will cost more money to have all the appropriate resources to produce a show. More people means, more microphones, chairs, microphone booms/stands, mixers, audio interfaces etc.

The better question to ask is, How big of a podcast do you plan on recording? Once you determine the size of podcast you plan on recording and how you want to record it, you can start discovering how much you need to spend on podcast equipment.

Does it matter if you have a Mac or Windows when producing a podcast? No!

To produce a podcast, it doesn’t matter if you have a Mac or Windows device. As long as you have a microphone, and recording software, you can start producing a podcast immediately.

Studio microphones hook up through XLR connections which require you to plug into either a sound mixer or audio interface. Your audio interface or mixer will need to plug into your computer through a USB port. Therefore, as long as your computer has a USB port to plug into, it doesn’t matter if you have a Windows or Mac.

One major thing you run into is software availability. You may find some recording software may not be available for Mac or vice versa.

I recommend new podcasters to use the recording software, Audacity. Audacity is a free recording software that is available on both Windows and Mac. The reason I like Audacity is because it allows you to record, edit and export your podcast right from the program.
