Arctic stick was Brandon’s first entrepreneur pursuit after leaving Iowa State University. He helped take the product from concept, design, manufacturing, and funding. Though Arctic stick might not have become the massive success that he was hoping, he learned a lot about himself and his particular skill set he possesses.
In the startup phase of any business, entrepreneurs look to find ways to fund the venture. With the power of the internet, raising money has never been any easier.
After Arctic Stick, Brandon transitioned into specializing around crowdfunding as there was a massive rise in the services and more and more entrepreneurs were looking to utilize those tools.
What is crowdfunding? Crowdfunding is raising small amounts of money to help fund a project or venture from many people.
Brandon Adams has a business called Keys to the Crowd, which is a firm that consults with clients helping launch their product or service using crowdfunding platforms. The famous clients he has helped in the past include John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire & Kevin Harrington original shark from Shark Tank.
Kickstarter & Indiegogo
If you are looking to raise money through crowdfunding there are many platforms, but the most famous and most used are Kickstarter and Indigogo. Each platform is a little different and depending on what you are trying to raise money for, helps determine which platform to use.
Indigogo is more flexible, you can raise money for anything from non-profits, for products, you name it. With Indiegogo’s structure, it’s easier to do referral campaigns on the backend according to Brandon.
Kickstarter, on the other hand, is more exclusive. You can not raise money for charity or non-profits. Kickstarter however, does get more unique visitors per month because they were first to market.
According to Brandon, both platforms are good, it really depends on what you are raising money for. If you are raising money for a cool product you might have more success on Kickstarter…Indigogo could be more utilized for films or non-profits.
