Your business needs to have a direction
Having a sense of direction in ones business and life is important
When first starting, there can be a lot of daunting factors that you have to look at when starting a business.
You have to worry about customer relationships, whether your website is setup properly, whether or not you’re getting paid on time, etc. There are so many moving pieces, that sometimes it can be daunting that a lot of times we don’t even start.
Regardless whether you’re starting out or you’re operating a business today, you need to have a sense of direction.
A ton of businesses fail due to the fact they have no clue where they are going and how they want to get there. When first starting, I would argue, this is one of the most pivotal moments of your startup.
Your mission and vision as a company is the foundation of where your business is built.
Everything else gets built on top of where you are trying to go, and how you are going to get there. Examples include;‘ why you run marketing promotions, or Whether you should to represent a client may change because of this. Organizations undergo massive change because their operations are not in alignment with their goals and objectives of where they are going.
To illustrate this, I want to give you an example.
Imagine you are sitting in your car in your driveway at home. A new friend you met over the weekend calls you to come over to hang out. You decide to take them up on their offer and head over for a drink. You hang up the phone, putting the car in reverse and drive off to your friend’s place.
But wait… You just met this new friend, and have no clue where exactly where they live.
This is so many people, in their business and life. They have no idea where they are going.
You wouldn’t drive around the city, hoping that you would just miraculously end up at your friend’s doorstep. So, what would you do?
You would get the address.
When you’re starting a business, you need to understand what you are doing and where you are going.
If you called your friend, and they said, “I live on the west side.” you now have a general idea where you are going. For granted this is where majority of businesses are.
But there is still one problem that remains…
They aren’t crystal clear where they want to go.
They don’t know where they want to be in 6 month, 1 year, or even 5 years.
However, when you get the physical address, such as 11762 104 St NW, you now have a crystal clear idea where you are going. Your business needs to have a physical address of where it’s trying to go.
Far too many people don’t have the address to their business and their life.
They simply hope things will just miraculously change and they will end up at the door’s front step.
In a recent episode of my podcast, I talk about the importance of having a sense of direction in one’s business and life. If you want to listen to that episode, scroll up to the top of the page, and click the player to listen.
I have a question for you… Where do you want to be in your business and life? Where do you want to be in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, etc. Do you have those things crystal clear? Do you need to re-examine these foundations? Are you on track to where you want to be?
Leave a comment in the section below, discussing if you’re driving around the block, or if you have an address. Or maybe… You have already arrived to the party.
