Since 2015 I’ve been an active reader of business; entrepreneurship, marketing, and personal finance books. I have always enjoyed reading this genre of books because they challenge your current mindset. I am a firm believer in obtaining new tools and learning lessons that others have spent a lifetime to achieve to become a higher version of yourself. When you examine the likelihood of a businesses success, one must consider how the company markets its product or service. That’s why the book of January 2018 is Seth Godin All Marketers Tell Stories. The Underground Classic That Explains How Marketing Really Works- and Why Authenticity is The Best Marketing of All.
All Marketers Are Liars / Tell Stories
Is this something that you have thought of before. Do you think that all marketers do is lie to consumers or do you think there is another side to the story? Do you think that everybody is just lying to you to get your money?
In Godin’s book, he examines that it’s not the marketer who is the liar but instead the consumer. The marketers’ job is to create a story that is in alignment with the worldview of the consumer and create a story around that lie. This book is a powerful tool that will ultimately help you to understand consumer behavior and why people make certain purchases.
What You’ll Learn
In Seth Godin’s – All Marketers Tell Stories you will learn about:
- Consumer Behaviour and Why We Make Certain Purchases
- Whether You Got Marketing
- A 5 Step by Step Framework on how Marketing Works
- Real Life Examples Of Story Framing
Why I LOVE Seth Godin’s All Marketers Tell Stories
I have always been fascinated by human psychology and intrigued to why humans make certain purchases. I love this book because it breaks down the art of storytelling and how a company uses storytelling to market to consumers. Seth Godin first examines marketing and whether or not your business is implementing effective storytelling. Majority of the book provides you with a five step-by-step framework to help you understand consumer psychology. Seth Godin’s book then demonstrates how to frame your product or service that is in alignment with your customer’s perspective.
One of my favorite quotes from the book is Step 4 of the framework which is “Stories let us lie to ourselves. And those lies satisfy our desires. It’s the story, not the good or the service you sell, that pleases the consumer” – from Seth Godin’s All Marketers Tell Stories.
I love this quote because it demonstrates why people are making certain purchases. People make purchases out of emotion and not logic. This quote shows that we are making purchases based on the stories we are presented with and not the utility of the product.
The Smallest Marketing Book You Need
One thing I love about Seth Godin’s All Marketers Tell Stories is how small and impactful the book is. The book is tiny and is an easy read providing you with a ton of information regarding psychology. Seth Godin offers many micro chapters throughout the book to help keep you engaged and thought provoked as you read.
